Ultrawideband RCS Reduction of Planar and Conformal Surfaces Using Ultrathin Polarization Conversion Metasurface

A metasurface-based polarization converter for ultrawideband radar cross-section (RCS) reduction of planar and conformal surfaces is presented in this paper. Initially, a designed which consists modified concentric double (MCD) square ring resonator-based unit cell along with an air gap between the substrate ground plane. This enhances conversion bandwidth (PCBW) converter. An ultrawide PCBW ranging from 6.3 – 20.5 GHz (106%) obtained high ratio (PCR) 0.9 normal incident EM waves. The efficiency also found to be stable oblique incidences over aforementioned band PCR above 0.8 upto ±35° angles incidence. Later on, checkerboard configuration metasurface (PCMS) array its mirror applied on as well cylindrical surface reducing cross section (RCS). It observed that consistent 10 - dB co-polarized monostatic RCS achieved PCMS (5.5 GHz). Even surface, nearly central 60° wideband. Both structures are simulated measured after fabrication, reasonably good agreement them.
